Bird Watching

The area around Granisle is ideal for bird watching. Many shorebirds, geese, swans and ducks rest on our lakes and rivers in spring and fall en route to and from the high Arctic.

We also have an excellent mix of land types including farms, swamp, alpine, lakeshore, coniferous and deciduous forests where birds nest. Some of the local birds that you might encounter include bald eagle, golden eagle, osprey, grouse, kingfisher, snow goose, sandhill crane, loon, merganser, varied thrush, jays, nutcracker, bluebird, blackbird and many different types of owls.

One of the most fascinating times to come to Granisle is mid-October when eagles come in drove to feed on salmon.
